Fluorocarbon is a material that has a similar light refraction index as water. This means that this material is under water less shiny than normal nylon and therefore almost invisible to the fish. Besides this virtue FC material resists the cold and UV rays.
Since there are significant differences in quality of fluorocarbon, we always trusted in Fluorcarbon from RIVERGE because the material coming from Kureha, Japan has a high shock and knot strength as well as abrasion resistance.
Knotless Tapered Leaders in general offer the advantage that no thick knots exist in contrast to knotted tapered leaders. No knots, especially in the thicker portion of the leader, drastically reduces chances your fly gets caught in the leader while casts and presentation.
Complete Fluorocarbon Leaders are primarily used for nymph and streamer fishing in clear rivers and lakes and in the sea, where wary fish are to be expected. In addition, fluorocarbon compared to nylon is sinking. A further advantage for these two fishing methods, for a fluorocarbon leader sinks completely under water, doesn't cast a shadow any more and helps bringing the fly down quicker to depth. A plus of the Riverge leaders in particular is their perfect taper, with a "heavy butt", that delivers a good turn over to even weighted flies, enhancing precise presentation to a target . Another plus is that the material is relatively low stretch, making hook setting easier at distance.

PS: You will often receive an even better drift of the fly, when you tie an additional piece of fluorcarbon tippet to the leader tip of these 9' (2.75m) long leaders. The diameter and shock strength should be choosen slightly lower than the diameter and strength of the thin leader end. Connection of the tippet can also be accomplished by using a tippet ring (Pitzenbauer ring).
